Wonder Woman (2017 Film)

In present-day Paris, Diana Prince, curator for the Louvre’s Department of Antiquities, receives a World War I-era photographic plate couriered by Wayne Enterprises and recalls her past.

Diana was born and raised on the hidden island of Themyscira, home to the Amazon race of warrior women created by the gods of Mount Olympus to protect humankind against the corruption of Ares, the god of war. In the distant past, Ares slew all his fellow gods, but his mortally wounded father, Zeus, struck him down. Before succumbing to his injuries, Zeus left the Amazons a weapon capable of killing his renegade son: the “Godkiller”, which Diana believes to be a ceremonial sword. Hippolyta, Diana’s mother and queen of the Amazons, believes that Ares will never return and thus forbids Diana from training as a warrior, but Diana and her aunt, General Antiope, defy the queen and begin training in secret. When the two are discovered by Hippolyta, Antiope convinces her sister to allow Diana’s training to continue.

As a young woman, Diana rescues Captain Steve Trevor, a pilot with the American Expeditionary Forces,[8] after his plane crashes off the coast of Themyscira. The island is soon invaded by the landing party of a German cruiser pursuing Steve. The Amazons engage and kill all the German sailors, but Antiope dies intercepting a German bullet meant for Diana. Interrogated with the Lasso of Truth, Steve reveals that World War I is raging in the outside world, and that he is an Allied spy. He stole a notebook from the Spanish chief chemist Isabel Maru known as “Doctor Poison”, who is attempting to engineer a deadlier form of mustard gas under the orders of General Erich Ludendorff. Believing Ares is responsible for the war, Diana arms herself with the ceremonial sword and leaves Themyscira with Steve to find and destroy Ares.

When the two arrive in London, they deliver Maru’s notebook to Steve’s superiors, including Sir Patrick Morgan, who is trying to negotiate an armistice with Germany. Diana translates Maru’s notes and reveals that the Germans plan to release the deadly gas at the warfront. Although forbidden by his commanders to act, Steve, with secret funding from Sir Patrick, recruits spy Sameer, marksman Charlie, and smuggler Chief to help him and Diana infiltrate enemy lines and prevent the gas from being released. When the team reach the Western Front in Belgium, they are halted by enemy machine guns, but Diana pushes alone through the German lines and rallies the Allied forces behind her to liberate the village of Veld. The team briefly celebrates and takes the group photograph from the beginning of the film. Later that night, Diana and Steve shared a kiss and it is implied that they spent the night together.

The team learns that a gala will be held at the nearby German High Command. Steve infiltrates the party, intending to locate the mustard gas and destroy it. Diana, however, believes Ludendorff is Ares and that killing him will end the war. Steve stops her to avoid blowing their cover and jeopardizing the mission. Ludendorff unleashes the mustard gas on Veld, killing all of its inhabitants. Diana blames Steve for intervening, and pursues the general to a military base where the gas is being loaded into a bomber bound for London. Diana fights and kills Ludendorff, who is physically enhanced by another of Dr. Maru’s gases, but is crestfallen when his death does not stop the war.

Sir Patrick appears and reveals that he is actually Ares. He tells Diana that although he has subtly given humans ideas and inspirations, it is ultimately humankind’s decision to cause war and violence. After destroying the ceremonial sword, Ares reveals that Diana is the true “Godkiller”: she is the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, and thus Ares’ half-sister. Ares attempts to convince Diana that humanity is inherently corrupt, and that she should help him destroy humankind to restore paradise on Earth. While the two battle and the rest of Steve’s team destroy Dr. Maru’s laboratory, Steve sacrifices himself by piloting the bomber carrying the gas to a safe altitude resulting to a fiery explosion into the sky to prevent the gas from reaching its destination. Ares attempts to harness Diana’s rage at Steve’s death by convincing her to kill a helpless Dr. Maru, but Diana’s memories of Steve inspired her that humans have good within them and she spares Maru out of mercy before overpowering and destroying Ares. Back in London, the nation celebrates the end of the war.

In the present day, Diana sends an e-mail to Bruce Wayne thanking him for the photographic plate of her and Steve and reaffirms her mission to protect all life as Wonder Woman.

Jesus Met Every Claim of God on You

When the children of Israel were in the wilderness, God instructed them to set up a tabernacle as a place of meeting between Him and them. Near the door of the tabernacle was an altar. It speaks of the claims God makes on the righteousness of man. For this reason, an offering had to be killed, its blood sprinkled all around on the altar and its body burnt on the altar before one was counted worthy to go into God’s presence.

The sprinkling of the blood of a bull or goat all around on that altar meant that the Israelites were under the covering of the blood of that animal. Even when they sinned, their sins were covered by the blood until the next sacrifice.

The blood speaks of Jesus’ blood shed for us at the cross. Yet, His blood is worth so much more than the blood of bulls and goats because His blood is effective forever! In fact, His blood has met every single claim of God on man to the point that God is so completely satisfied that He now enjoys the savor of rest in what His Son has done.

You too can rest knowing that God is fully satisfied with you because of Christ’s perfect sacrifice. Even if you fall into sin, you can turn to the blood of Jesus. Your sins are not merely covered by His blood, like how the blood of bulls and goats covered sins. No, your sins have been washed away by His blood! (Revelation 1:5) In fact, your sins and lawless deeds God remembers no more! (Hebrews 8:12; 10:17)

Jesus was your perfect offering placed on the altar of sacrifice. By just one offering of Himself, “He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified”. (Hebrews 10:14, KJV) Jesus has not only sanctified you or made you holy, He has perfected you forever! Today, you can enter boldly into God’s presence because He sees you the way He sees Jesus. He sees you perfected forever because you are in Christ!

The Head and Not the Tail

One of our church members saw his sales performance hit rock bottom by the middle of the year. As a result, he was ranked 320 out of the 420 financial advisers in his company.

Devastated and on the verge of giving up, he started listening to my messages and claiming God’s promises such as “the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath” and “many who are first will be last, and the last first”. (Matthew 19:30)

He committed everything to God because he believed that only God could turn things around for him. And God did just that.

By the end of that year, he was ranked second in his branch and 10th in the whole company! He qualified for a trip for two to Barcelonia, Spain, worth about S$20,000. That was not all. For the first time in his 12 years as a financial adviser, he qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table Award. Only the top six per cent of advisers in the entire industry qualify for this international award.

Beloved, when God makes you the head, you will end up on top of your circumstances. Consider the story of Joseph. (Genesis 39) Even when he was a slave, he was the head and not the tail because God prospered everything that he did.

“But Pastor Prince, when I look at my life, there are times when I am up and there are times when I am down. Yet, the Bible says that I will be above only. I don’t understand this.”

What you are going through is only temporal. Keep believing that you are above only and not beneath, even when you have hit rock bottom. It is God who always causes you to triumph in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:14) You cannot cause yourself to triumph. Only God can and He has promised in His Word that you will be the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. So believe His Word in spite of your circumstances and expect to see victory!

God uses the weak to confound the mighty

When you are faced with a big challenge, do you automatically look for the most powerful means to solve the problem? Well, my friend, that is not thinking the way God thinks. The Bible tells us that it pleases God to use what the world considers weak, foolish, base and despised to bring to nothing things which are mighty.

“What is that in your hand?” God asked.

“A rod,” Moses said. And with that rod, he performed miracles and confounded the might of Pharaoh.

“Five loaves and two fish,” a little boy said. And with that little boy’s lunch, Jesus fed 5,000 men, and his disciples gathered 12 baskets full of leftovers.

“The jawbone of an ass,” Samson said. And with that, he slew a thousand Philistines, who were the enemies of God’s people.

“Five stones and a sling,” said David the shepherd boy. And with one of his stones and the sling, he brought down Goliath, the mighty Philistine champion.

At a recent conference for Hokkien-speaking pastors, Pastor Mark, our Hokkien and Mandarin services pastor, realized how his spoken Hokkien pales in comparison to the refined and flawless Hokkien spoken by the other pastors there. Yet, it pleases God to use Pastor Mark’s colloquial Hokkien to lead many dialect-speaking folks, especially the elderly, to Christ.

Many of these elderly folks are testifying that for the first time in their lives, they are set free completely from fears of debilitating diseases, loneliness, deep-rooted superstitions, generational curses, the ravages of old age and even death.

My friend, don’t despise what seems weak and insignificant to the world. God can use them to bring down the giants in your life!

NAWEM – Inspire Women in Business

I was browsing around when I found this website that inspires women in business – NAWEM. You can visit their site at https://www.nawem.org.my/. They have organised several workshops and seminars for business women. Just the other day, I was reading the Straits Times and the government had helped a woman bumi earning from barely $1k per month to making $1 million in revenue every month simply selling babies’ diapers and exporting to Indonesia, Philippines, etc. Even her trip and hotel stay at the first attempt were all paid for! So easy peasy for bumis to get started and connected with the right channels, if only they are willing to work hard and put in effort.

The learning curve is cut short very much unlike for others who have to slought it out themselves. We may not even have the financial means to do so and even have to learn from trial and error. As it is, I have a booking site that is still not ready even after 2 years of hosting and it has not brought in any business. If only I have a mentor to guide me through how to strike it out on my own on a part time basis, as I have a full time job at home, I would gladly grab the opportunity.

Stayed at Mid Valley Cititel Hotel

I just came back from KL 2 days ago and we stayed at Mid Valley Cititel Hotel for 1 night. We were on our way back to Penang when there was a call for an interview on Monday at the last minute. Hence, we had to stay back for a total of 4 days and 3 nights in KL. I also redeemed my Manis H&M voucher for $30 at 20% discount with a minimum spend of $150. After coming back in the evening, the following day, went to Alor Setar to meet up with someone which we may not accept due to the stringent rules of completion.

I also signed up for UOB credit card and got a sign up gift of Hello Kitty selfie stick, power bank, USB light, key ring and wire. The box of 5 pieces cost $70 online or rather $69 that I got for free just for signing up at Mid Valley. Always sign up with young people, they will give you the sign up gift; never with old people who might even keep the gifts for themselves and tell you there is no sign up gift! Utter balloney.

I am now in the midst of updating the work and profile and it requires some time to complete. My boss had gone out on site project and won’t be back until later. Also just received a parcel of Pastor Joseph Prince’ message CDs of 4 in a set that is long overdue by the postman.

Let it Go

After crossing the Red Sea, the children of Israel came to a place called Marah. The waters there were bitter. That is why the place was called Marah, which means “bitter”. The Israelites could not drink any of the water, so the Lord made the bitter waters sweet. (Exodus 15:23–25) Then, He brought up the subject of the diseases of Egypt and, for the first time, revealed Himself to His people as “the Lord who heals you”.

Why did the Lord suddenly mention the diseases of the world (Egypt represents the world in the Bible) at a place called “bitter”? What do diseases have to do with bitter waters? I believe that it is because He wants His people to know that a major cause of diseases in their bodies is harboring bitterness and resentment!

Some years ago, a lady shared with me about her sister who had died of cancer at a young age. She said, “Pastor Prince, a number of years before she passed on, she went through a very bitter divorce. She was very bitter toward her ex-husband.” Then, she asked me, “Is there a relationship between her bitterness and the cancer?”

I have studied the subject of healing for many years. I have read many books. I have listened to many sermons and I have sat under many healing ministries. And they all say the same thing: If you have unforgiveness in your heart long enough, that unforgiveness can sometimes translate into a disease in your body.

So if you have been bitter about something or someone, it is time to let it go! Your health, joy and life are more important. If you are already sick and you know that bitterness has something to do with it, let it go! See Jesus as your healer. He is standing at your place of bitterness today and He is saying to you, “My child, I can make your bitter waters sweet. I am the Lord who heals you.”

My friend, let it all go and let Jesus heal not just your diseases, but your broken heart too! – Pastor Joseph Prince
