Visited Grandpa’s Grave May 8, 2017 bizadmin Yesterday, my youngest sister drove dad, aunt and myself to grandpa’s graveyard to pay respects and then to grandma’s urn in a temple next to her sister-in-law and also uncle’s urn nearby. May perpetual light shine upon their departed souls and that they be in a happier place. Grandma was my roomate for many years before I left for Singapore to study and work. She taught me diligence, hard work and saving up for rainy days. She was also a very strict disciplinarian. Anyway, grandpa departed at an early age of only 39 due to sickness. My dad was around 8 or so at that time. Being a single parent for grandma, they endured hardship, what more with her constant gambling to make money. In the end she lost more than she gained as the 3 other gamblers colluded with each other cheat her of her cash. Finally, to put food on the table, she sold laksa in the streets and dad had to wash the dishes besides serving them. Such was the hardship of growing up for my dad and he values working hard, teaching us how to fish to feed for a lifetime. Well, he had earned some but lost some in the share markets and tontine too. Now, his focus is on serving God and volunteers in an old folks’ home. I was at Quayside for 1 day to read and relax. It was good and enjoyable to be away from the small condo, packed with files and papers all over the tables and counter. It is like an office with a bed where you can take power naps in between work.
