If you are sick, convince yourself that Jesus is your healer and that by His stripes you are healed. You don’t need to convince God. He is not the one who needs to be persuaded because His blessing is already on you! It is you who needs to be persuaded that God has already given you your miracle. That is the reason you confess His Word—to convince yourself, not God, to persuade your heart, not His. Some people confess their faith to others to convince God indirectly. For example, if they are believing God for healing, they go around telling their friends, “I am believing God for healing.” They are actually trying to convince or persuade God to heal them. They are telling God, “I’ve told so many people what I am believing You for. It would be very embarrassing if You don’t make it happen.” Their confession proceeds from unbelief and is used to manipulate God. It is okay to tell others if you want to, so that they can stand in faith with you for your miracle. But don’t do it to prove your faith to God and to convince Him. You just need to convince yourself that God loves you and delights in blessing you. Just say to yourself, “By His stripes I am healed. I will not suffer lack. The minute you hear or read the good news, and you believe and receive it, His Word goes forth to sozo (the Greek word for “save”) you, making you whole in every way, “for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” What is the good news? It is that God loves us so much that He gave us His Son to take our beating so that we can have His blessings without having to work for them. Right now, as you are reading this devotional, listening to a preacher or watching a sermon DVD, as you hear God’s Word, His power is released into your situation, working things out for you and turning your situation around for your good. In Acts 14:8–10, we see Paul preaching the good news in Lystra. A man who was crippled from birth was listening to Paul. Paul, seeing that he had faith to be healed, said, “Stand up straight on your feet!” And the man leaped and walked! He heard the good news, believed it and was healed. At a leadership conference in Oslo, Norway, where I was speaking, a pastor there shared how a well-respected businessman in his church was healed while listening to one of my sermon CDs. This man was deaf in one ear. And when he was listening to my teaching on the CD, his deaf ear popped open without anyone laying hands on him or praying for him! He was just listening to the good news when his ear opened. Now, that is what I call the power of God unto his salvation, sozo-ing him, making his hearing whole! My only interaction with her was through our emails, and she was lovely to work with 🙂 She has been scoping for 35 years and is the course Instructor. Here’s what she had to say. What is scoping? Scoping is the editing of files created by court reporters of depositions, court cases, hearings, and other proceedings. As scopists, we read the files word for word and get the file as close to perfect as possible. It then goes back to the reporter to a proofreader for the last read-through before going out to attorneys. How do you know if you might be a good scopist? People who are likely to be good at scoping are those who love to read and write, work crossword puzzles, play word games, learn new words, and love language. Scopists also need to be able to sit at a computer for many hours a day and concentrate. They must be motivated self-starters, organized, conscientious, and client oriented. What experience/ skill does it require? Scopists are ahead of the game if they are good spellers and have a good vocabulary. Since scopists are paid by the page, the more efficiently we can edit, the more money we can make per hour/day/month/year. Like anything, the more you scope, the better/faster you’ll get. Experience is one of the few benefits of aging! I have found court reporters to be very accepting of new scopists, provided they are well trained, do a good job, meet their deadlines, and take good care of their clients. Your training course should be able to teach you all the knowledge and skills you need so that you have the confidence when you begin scoping that you know exactly what you are doing. The very first job you do should be as good as the fiftieth. ISS does exactly that! You have my word on it. Can you work from anywhere with a scoping job? These days, we receive and return files via the internet. So if you have a good internet signal, you can work from almost anywhere for any reporter anywhere. Years ago, I worked in a park while my kids took swimming lessons; I’ve worked from our camper beside a lake, and I’ve sent and received files while my husband was driving down the interstate. Compared to being stuck in a stuffy office, running an old mainframe computer, we’ve come a long way, baby! How do we correspond with the court reporter? Most communication is done via email and texting. I have worked with reporters for quite a while and have never heard their voices or seen their faces. It can seem kind of weird at first. However, I used to go to the national convention every year, and I have to say it was a lot of fun to put faces to scopists’ and reporters’ names. People in this profession are smart, wonderful people. I have made many good friends through the years. What tools do we need to have to work as a scopist? A relatively recent computer Dependable high-speed internet access CAT software upon which you will edit the files: I teach Case CATalyst software Reference books (optional): While we used to have expensive/extensive reference libraries, almost anything can now be found online, which has alleviated the need for this expense. A great training course: Internet Scoping School There is no substitute for the most thorough, comprehensive program you can get. ISS has two to three times the training material of other online courses, the most experienced instructor, and it is the only course to thoroughly train students in reading steno notes and the intricacies of running the software. ISS also offers almost 50 files, written by a dozen different reporters, upon which you can practice editing to the reporter’s preference form. You won’t find a more thorough program anywhere. What is the salary of a scopist? As a new graduate, you should work with one reporter for a little while to get your feet wet and get into the scoping “groove.” Once you get a feel for how many pages you can edit per hour/day, start adding clients. You will need to market your own business, but we have several lessons that will help you learn how to do that. The school also passes on reporter contacts that we get, and grads often refer clients to each other. You might only make 20K/year or less starting out, but once you get up to full time, you should be able to make 30-50K per year. If you get into the high-stress rush work, you can make even more. How long does it take to complete the course? Do we get help after course completion? If a student can dedicate 15-20 hours/week to studying, s/he should be able to complete the training in six months or less. Compare that to a four-year college degree! There are tons of quizzes with answer keys, as well as final exams on each section. Students are given a great deal of feedback on exams and asked to look up rules and correct answers. Students are allowed to restudy sections and retake tests if they don’t score at least 85% on exams. Unlike colleges, the goal of this course is not the grades: It’s the working knowledge and skill that graduates need to make a successful scoping business for themselves. ISS students are given LIFETIME access to the website and the instructor. If the training is updated, that material is available FREE to all grads. If new sections are added, they are available at a steep discount. We have a public and a private Facebook page, the latter for students and grads only. We interact, ask questions, give advice, refer work, share experiences, and do our best to see that each person succeeds. As the instructor, I am available online during working hours Monday through Friday, and I’m usually online weekends too. The promised land was a land of rest where God promised His people “large and beautiful cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant” (Deuteronomy 6:10–11). But for 40 years, God’s people wandered in the wilderness because they refused to believe that God had given them a land where everything had been prepared—the work was finished. They could not believe that God had given them a land full of good things to enjoy, a land which just flowed with His abundant supply. Today, there are believers who still cannot believe that the work of Jesus is truly complete and finished. They are trying to complete a completed work, finish a finished work and defeat a defeated devil. There are believers today who are always working and trying to produce their healing, success and victory. God wants us to stop trying and start trusting in His love for us. He wants us to stop working and struggling, and start resting and believing in His grace toward us. The only “work” left for us to do today is to enter His rest. We are to labor every day to enter His rest. We are to rest inwardly and believe that the work is done because it is a finished work, and trust in God’s undeserved favor toward us. We are to rest in Jesus our true ark, who will carry us through tempestuous waters. So today, “if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…be diligent to enter that rest” (Hebrews 4:7, 11). Let’s enter His rest. Let’s enjoy sitting together with Christ in the heavenly places, then we will run and not be weary (see Isaiah 40:31)! – Joseph Prince
