Dinner at New Dragon Gate Seafood Restaurant October 9, 2017 bizadmin I just had dinner at New Dragon Gate Seafood Restaurant with my business partner and spouse, inside Red Rock Hotel, formerly known as Mandarin Hotel along Macalister Road. It is located conveniently near our condo and we were out for dinner at around 9:00pm where most of the eateries are closing. This lights of fortune with crystal ball on top caught my attention and I took the opportunity to snap it for posterity. It has the shape of Chinese money of gold nugget. That’s me seated on a carved wooden chair at the lobby of Red Rock Hotel just before dinner on the first floor. This is the ambience with lilac coloured covered chairs with white ribbons and red lanterns suspended on the ceiling. This is the printout or design of the restaurant serviette with address, logo, etc. This was the first dish of black and yellow Japanese tofu, topped with fried mushrooms, spring onions and red chilies. It was quite delicious, with soft texture that is ubiquitous of tofu. Here the second dish was served consisting of scallops with sliced lotus root, green peas, asparagus and carrots. This was the third and final serving of 2 piecces of cod fish with black Japanese sauce, garnished with honeydew melon scoops, radish flower and green salad on the side. These are some of the appetisers like peanuts while waiting for the main dish to arrive which was tofu with chilies, pu-er tea, on an embroidered table cloth. Searching for That JOB September 16, 2017 bizadmin After graduating in 1994, I remember looking fervently for a job and I applied to dozens of companies, where a few called me up for an interview, before finally landing myself a job in a computer school. I became an IT trainer, teaching Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access. I also taught BASIC programming at a junior level. I recalled working 9 hours in a row, with each lesson lasting 3 hours. If we have 3 lessons in a day, we called it ‘caterpillar’ and if there is a break of 3 hours in between, we called it ‘butterfly’. I don’t know why it was named as such, but those where the days we colleagues destress by cracking jokes, usually related to the private parts. 🙂 And we laughed over it during recess time. I have had my share of filling up to 4 -6 forms of details on the spot and wait for the interview afterwards. In Singapore, there will always be x-rays done and medical checkups before you are cleared for employment. I recalled going for at least 5 x-rays for every new job that intended to hire me. Some lasted long while others were short stints. After 12 long years of ‘hardship’ of studying and working, I finally called it quits and returned to Penang, Malaysia for a slower pace of life. For most people a JOB is ‘Just Over Broke’, which I fully agree. You are paid just enough so that you won’t leave and Not more! I was living from paycheque to paycheque and was always broke at the end of the month, leaving my bank account to 2 digits and even 1 digit one time! There was no savings in any form and it was all into expenditure to pay for bills, shopping, etc. Well, now I am happy to say, I landed myself a Dream job to work in a home office doing administrative work and also maintaing the company website that I designed. By God’s grace and some luck, I got myself a moderately understanding boss who was initially my website client and now we work together on many projects. He helms the company while I do all the computer work or any work related to computers. And the workstation is just a walk to the next room, working in my pajamas.
Condo in Damansara September 12, 2017 bizadmin I was at a client’s place in Damansara where we have a current project. For the sake of the business, I shall not reveal which Condo it was, but suffice to say it was one of the oldest and most well-kept condos in Damansara. Here, you can see the beautiful blue-tiled pool surrounded by greenery with red blooms or chili fruits which adds to the attraction of the place. Here is another view of the pool with the main building on the left side overlooking the awesome view of the swimming pool, dotted in dark blue tiles with turquoise tiles. Another eye candy for your view only. Much greenery of Palm trees and star-like fronds add to the breathtaking view of the man-made waterfalls from the pool. Another view of the awesome swimmming pool cum waterfalls with rushing water descending rapidly down the steps to create negative ions that are refreshing to the mind, body and soul.
Had a Stroll at KOMTAR Walk August 28, 2017 bizadmin This morning, after an early lunch of dim sum, I walked up the stairs to KOMTAR to enjoy the view of new restaurants, moving display of pictures and photos on LED ceiling lights, took a break at Marry Brown empty seats and just absorb the colourful sights and cafeterias along both sides of the aisle. There was a huge display of durian that greeted us near the entrance. Durian is supposedly the ‘king of fruits’ in Malaysia with its pungent flavour and fragrance. It is an acquired taste; otherwise foreigners will think it smells like used socks, according to then President Obama, during his trip to Malaysia sometime back. I was mesmerised by a colourful ‘parade’ of people in Samba-like costumes walking along the KOMTAR Walk aisle and took the opportunity to snap a photo for lifetime memory and posterity here in this blog. You cannot miss the colourful ostrich feathers of red, blue, green, yellow and the like. A Marilyn Monroe look alike and Captain Jack Sparrow of the Pirates of the Caribbean lookalike was there too as eye candy. I guess I was lucky to have this opportunity with the small group to attract tourists such as myself and friend, albeit being locals. Can you find me carrying a placard that says, “I love To The Top, KOMTAR?” The above photo was taken at ‘Japanese Street’, fully adorned with the signature pink cherry blossoms, local to Japan and its sushi outlets selling Japanese ice-cream and of course, sushi. There was also a Rolls Royce on display at the foyer; I don’t know why it is there in the first place and it was not even offered for a lucky draw. But the model is old compared to my uncle’s Phantom in Singapore that has sleeker style and more chic.
