Easter Bunny and Happy Easter 2020

Easter Bunny and Happy Easter 2020

It’s a known fact across the United States that the egg-laying Easter Bunny goes hand in hand with Easter Sunday. Every year, eager children rush to their Easter baskets (likely a great DIY Easter basket idea) to see what kinds of treats, chocolate bunnies, and other special fillers the furry, mythical creature left behind for them. But, just like Santa Claus and Christmas, the mysterious hare has no obvious connections to the Christian significance of this post-Lent holy day. So, what are the Easter bunny’s origins, and why has it become such a prevalent symbol? 🍰🎂🧁

What does a rabbit have to do with Easter?

One theory of the Easter Bunny’s origins is that it stemmed from early pagan celebrations around the vernal equinox, says Time. Pagans celebrated the springtime renewal of life as well as the goddess of dawn and fertility, Eostre, who was often represented by the hare or an egg. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, the celebrations around the vernal equinox may have merged with the observance of Christ’s resurrection, since they both occurred around the same time. Missionaries were said to blend pagan traditions with Christian holidays to make the transition smoother, so it is possible that the celebrations of Eostre and the resurrection of Christ became one. 🌸💐🍀

Happy Good Friday 2020

Good Friday 2020

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, and Black Friday.

Members of many Christian denominations, including the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist, Oriental Orthodox, and Reformed traditions, observe Good Friday with fasting and church services.

The date of Good Friday varies from one year to the next on both the Gregorian and Julian calendars. Eastern and Western Christianity disagree over the computation of the date of Easter and therefore of Good Friday. Good Friday is a widely instituted legal holiday around the world, including in most Western countries and 12 U.S. states. Some countries, such as Germany, have laws prohibiting certain acts, such as dancing and horse racing, that are seen as profaning the solemn nature of the day.

According to the accounts in the Gospels, the royal soldiers, guided by Jesus’ disciple Judas Iscariot, arrested Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Judas received money (30 pieces of silver) (Matthew 26:14–16) for betraying Jesus and told the guards that whomever he kisses is the one they are to arrest. Following his arrest, Jesus was taken to the house of Annas, the father-in-law of the high priest, Caiaphas. There he was interrogated with little result and sent bound to Caiaphas the high priest where the Sanhedrin had assembled (John 18:1–24).

Personal Views

It started with Maundy Thursday, followed by Good Friday and today is Holy Saturday. Tomorrow will be Easter Sunday, where for the first time, all Christians, if not most of them, will celebrate this beautiful day at home due to the lockdown of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.

It is postulated to be a year of recession, according to the Singapore Government. This will last for quite some time, maybe up to next year, and many companies are closing down due to no income and money to roll and to tide over during this challenging period.

So, in the meantime, for most of us staying put in the comfort of our home, let’s keep occupied by reading, learning a new course, and stay sane and happy. Be Safe and Be Happy!

Be happy not because everything is good

Goodbye 2019, Happy New Year 2020

Goodbye 2019, Happy New Year 2020

Today, I woke up to another day, except today is the New Year’s Eve of 2020 and 2019 is coming to a close. A chapter is yet to be written in a book for 2020 and we can all celebrate the ups and downs of 2019 brings with it. It is the first year without dad’s presence since he departed on 17th December 2018, 1 year ago due to a 5th heart attack at IJN, just before his scheduled open-heart surgery.

Dad did give hints of his impending departure and gave up on living by choosing his obituary words from a newspaper cutting.  We did not take it seriously, but he departed earlier than usual at the age of 81 years and 8 months. Anyway, on a happier note, I continued with my job to work in a home office, getting constant inquiries while freelancing on a part-time basis moonlighting doing surveys and micro-jobs plus writing articles here and there.

Goodbye 2019 Hello 2020

I don’t have plans as of today but might go somewhere to celebrate the ushering of a new year with fireworks, etc.  There are several places that we could go to. As for my resolution for next year, well to exercise more, eat less to reduce my obesity and high BMI.

I hope you have also made your own resolutions for next year. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. 😉 Here’s hoping for more prosperity, more victory and more health to do what it takes to get there and achieve your goals. Happy New Year 2020!

Happy Deepavali to my Readers

To see a giant peacock statue with flowers as its colourful feathers that compliments the Rangoli or Kolam, simply click on the right button on the photo and you can scroll to the left for more breathtaking pictures. I happened to be at Subang Airport at the right time some days back and took the opportunity to snap a few photos for posterity. I was waiting for my Malindo flight back at night to Penang after visiting a few places for work.

Now it is just past midnight and you can hear bangs of firecrackers in the wee hours of the morning! Now, where did they get the idea of exploding firecrackers here on a Deepavali? Anyway, hope you enjoy your holidays and for some, they took a long leave over the weekend to travel somewhere exotic or even nearby with loved ones. Happy Deepavali everyone!

Came Back from KL

I came back from Kuala Lumpur last night and slept through early due to the long journey. It was a short trip to collect a cheque and thereafter had a short honeymoon in Mandarin Oriental Hotel where I was given a bouquet of orchids of violet, orange and white hues. We presented our voucher for a free box of 10 chocolate pralines in various designs and bursts of flavors. I also receive pink heart shaped chocolates in caramel and drizzled with red spots as eye candy. At the hotel, we also received 2 complimentary bottles of orange and apple with lemongrass flavored sparkling water.

As it was Dad’s and spouse’s birthdays this month of April, I used the 50% voucher for a strawberry, blueberry and blackberry topped cheese cake at $84 after discount. The cake was lovely and heavenly to taste. Pure ambrosia! Apparently Mandarin Oriental, despite its Chinese name, serves kosher or ‘halal’ Malay cuisine. It was 51% owned by Petronas, the corporate government arm of Malaysia. Thank goodness, we arrived safely and will celebrate dad’s early birthday in a beach hotel later.

Happy Easter Sunday

When is Good Friday?

This year, Good Friday falls YESTERDAY, Friday, March 30. In different traditions, the date is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday. It marks the start of the Easter long weekend, which includes Easter Monday on April 2, 2018. The date changes every year as Easter Sunday must always fall on the next full moon after Spring Equinox.

Why do we celebrate Good Friday?

Good Friday is commemorated because the date marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. Accounts of the Gospel state that the son of God was put to death after he was betrayed by Judas and sentenced to death. The date falls during Holy Week on the Friday before Easter Sunday and sometimes coincides with the Jewish celebration of Passover. Experts believe the event has been coined “Good Friday” because the word “good” means pious or holy.

Millions of Christians across the globe are set to celebrate Easter on April 1 TOMORROW.
