Happy Chinese New Year of the Monkey in 2016 February 7, 2016 bizadmin Today is Chinese New Year’s Eve and I have tar pau my dinner already. My mum and youngest sis are in Singapore, dad and I in Penang and second sis and hubby in UK still pursuing for their PhDs with 1.5 years to go should there be no more delays. Well, I have lots of reading materials stocked up and the computer to keep me occupied this CNY. Normally we would have gone to Hatyai as a family of 4, but this year we were split. The year of the fire monkey has arrived and gone is the year of the Ram, my youngest sister’s zodiac sign. I am happy staying in my apartment instead of moving in with dad for a few days. There are a lot of events going on in M-Mall downstairs and finding food is not a problem. Dad has my replacement meal to take instead of driving out to buy food. The replacement meal is not cheap either; it cost me $14 per packet which is to be mixed with water, stirred and drunk. Anyway, Happy Chinese New Year and hopefully things don’t look so bleak as printed in the press.
Christmas Dinner at Matsuki December 27, 2015 bizadmin My second sister had done a review for The Star as a stringer at Matsuki along Cantonment Road and further up called Jalan Pemenang. Well, this Christmas, we had lunch there with their Christmas bento set for an affordable $35 and the bill came to about $271 for 7 persons with 10% discount for my sister. It was set in an old colonial single storey white bungalow with some parking spaces. The bento consists of mushrooms rolled with salmon and avocado, meat burger, chawan mushi, miso soup and some garnishings here and there with tea – hot or cold. On boxing day, my niece celebrated her wedding at Rasa Sayang Hotel with about 5 tables for the guests after the tea ceremony. It started with 4 seasons platter, followed by crab’s meat soup without the sharks’ fins to save the dwindling population of sharks, and other 8-course-meal with dessert at the end. The food was not too bad but CRC is still better and value for money.

Happy Deepavali to my Readers November 13, 2012 bizadmin KLCC Kolam Happy Deepavali to all my Indian readers here! The kolam above was taken in KLCC Suria at the ground floor recently, during my stay at Mandarin Oriental Hotel for business. The theme is peacock and you can see the designs similar to the peacock feathers. Peacocks are significant creatures during Deepavali. Most of the kolam theme is based on this magnificent bird. Mandarin Oriental Kolam The kolam above was taken at the lobby of Mandarin Oriental Hotel recently. Here is to wishing a festivity of light and success to all, especially the Indians of this nation. Malaysia is a kaleidoscope of cultures of Chinese, Indians and Malays. It is rich in heritage brought down by our forefathers. This tradition has continue for more generations down the line.
