Little Pet Pomeranian Follows its Owner Around Abandoning its Food

Here is a video of a pet Pomeranian enjoying its treat of chicken strips. When its owner, my business partner, decided to relieve himself in the restroom, the cute pet doggie abandoned its delicacy and followed him around like his shadow! When my partner is out for dinner or to buy take-aways, it will patiently wait by the door for his return. It will happily trot around and around when she senses that he is coming back or by the door unlocking the latch.

When we returned, we could see the footsteps of the cute pet dog ‘dancing’ around merrily, ushering our homecoming. It is adorable and wags its tail swiftly whenever it sees us returning. Pomeranians shed some fur at a particular time during their growth, and the barking sound is sharp, albeit a little loud for its small size. Besides being a play toy dog, this makes it a good ‘guard’ dog.

It will faithfully guard its territory, our house, from strangers and other people. I love this cute pet dog despite it being stubborn and peeing everywhere as a young puppy. Later, we discovered that we needed to switch on the light where its peeing tray is for it to do its business at night. Otherwise, it might be a long cleaning time at a random place on the floor. We learned too late that our little Pomeranian, called ‘Baby,’ needs to pee and poo at night, too, with the lights on at the proper tray.

Hence, it is not surprising that some owners bequeathed their wealth to their pets than their kids. The saying comes, “A dog is a Man’s Best Friend.” In a nutshell, it is better to keep a small pet or furry kid in the house as a loyal companion, destress, and prolong one’s lifespan. Don’t you find those black beady eyes like black ‘buah kuli’ or marbles that we used to play as kids adorable? Below is another video of our cute pet dog in its younger days. This year in 2022, it is five years of age, or 35 human years, and knows many things, observing us. I don’t regret getting her as part of the family now. She inevitably kills our blues away with her pleasant mannerism. Check out the video below as well:-

Also, I am born in the year of the dog, the zodiac animal calendar. Hence, I naturally have an affinity for dogs and canines. Puppies are too cute to behold! But their incessant barking has to be controlled and trained. Get a trainer if you can so your pup will be well behaved. The video above, also shot by yours truly, shows the excitement of the Pomeranian dog while waiting for her treat.

Listen to my cute Pomeranian puppy whining sounds

My Pomeranian puppy cannot wait for her outdoor walk. She is consoled by a nearby Mynah bird cooing and perched outside on the balcony. It’s obvious who the actual owner is on this video – Yes, my partner – for he brings her for walks, cleans up her pee and poo, feeds and bathes her every few months, as recommended by Astro tv on caring for Poms.

In a nutshell, The Pomeranian (often known as a Pom) is a breed of dog of the Spitz type named for the Pomerania region in north-west Poland and north-east Germany in Central Europe. Classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size, the Pomeranian is descended from larger Spitz-type dogs, specifically the German Spitz.

Pomeranians are small dogs weighing 1.36–3.17 kilograms (3.0–7.0 lb) and standing 8–14 inches (20–36 cm) high at the withers. They are compact but sturdy dogs with an abundant textured coat with a highly plumed tail set high and flat. The topcoat forms a ruff of fur on the neck, which Poms are well known for, and they also have a fringe of feathery hair on the hindquarters.

The earliest examples of the breed were white or occasionally brown or black. Queen Victoria adopted a small red Pomeranian in 1888, which caused that color to become fashionable by the end of the 19th century. In modern times, the Pomeranian comes in the widest variety of shades of any dog breed, including white, black, brown, red, orange, cream, blue, sable, black and tan, brown and tan, spotted, brindle, plus combinations of those colors. The most common colors are orange, black, or cream/white.

Pomeranians have a thick double coat. While grooming is not tricky, breeders recommend that it be done daily to maintain the quality of the coat and because of its thickness and the constant shedding, with trimming every 1–2 months. The outer coat is long, straight, and harsh texture, while the undercoat is soft, thick, and short. The coat knots and tangles easily, mainly when the undercoat is shed, which happens twice a year.

Above is another picture of Leia, slightly grown up in all her furry glory. Oh, by the way, my job is to pick up balls of fur almost daily at the beginning when she sheds her fur. But now, having moved to another place, she is happier and no longer shed so many furballs for yours truly to pick up. As today is a Sunday, stay happy and stay safe. Enjoy your weekend, people.

6 Ways Pets Help Us Maintain Our Mental Health

Mental health and pets

Mental health is one of the significant issues of our time, and we are finally starting to treat it properly. Different people will struggle to maintain mental health differently, but it all begins with awareness.

One of the best ways to maintain good mental health is adopting a furry companion. The physical and psychological health benefits that can accompany the pleasure of a furry friend are tremendous.

With COVID-19 forcing many of us to be isolated at home with limited contact, even now, having a pet around could be a literal lifesaver, providing us with companionship and stability.

How Can Pets Help Maintain Good Mental Health?

Pets Can Reduce Stress and Manage Anxiety

It’s proven that pets can help reduce stress levels simply by being around. Studies have shown that pet owners are less likely to suffer from depression. Playing with a pet can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which are vital to helping us calm down and relax. Animals live in the moment, so they don’t worry about yesterday or tomorrow. This can help you overcome anxiety and stress by reminding you to be mindful of the present. All of this can help maintain mental health.

Pet Owners are at a Lower Risk of Heart Attacks

Pets help lower blood pressure, and some studies have even shown that people with borderline hypertension can see positive results in their blood pressure in under six months. Owning a pet also has a positive impact on cholesterol, showing that pet owners have lower cholesterol levels than those without pets. The companionship that pets offer provides stress relief; reducing stress is an excellent way to improve health for someone with a heart condition.

Pets Help Children Grow into Confident and Secure Adults

Caring for an animal is one of the most rewarding experiences a child can have. It teaches them to be responsible for another life and helps them learn things like empathy and social skills. Pets can help children with their learning. Educators have long used animals (mainly dogs) as a form of therapy in schools to help developmentally challenged kids learn.

Pets Combat Loneliness by Providing Companionship

Loneliness is one of the critical triggers for depression and stress. Having a pet can help you overcome that, not only by providing companionship themselves but also by increasing opportunities to meet new people at pet shops, vets, or in the park.

Owning a Pet increases your Physical Activity.

Physical health has a direct impact on your mental wellbeing. Having a pet means you are more likely to be physically active, especially if you own a dog you need to walk several times a day. Still, even cats and other animals can inspire you to get up off the couch and do something to maintain mental health and your physical wellbeing!

Adding Structure and Routine to Your Day

Having a pet means you are responsible for their wellbeing, which means ensuring they have enough food, freshwater, exercise, and are well taken care of. For many people, this generates a routine—eg. Change water morning, night; clean cat litter, feed, walk.

Having a Pet in your Older Years can Help Maintain Mental Health

Mental health and pets

Sometimes, it becomes harder to find joy as we get older, especially if we’re all alone. Having a pet can alleviate these issues by giving us meaning again, providing us with someone to care for. Moreover, you stay connected with other pet owners by visiting dog parks, pet cafes, etc. that provide great opportunities for the elderly to meet other people with (or without) pets of their own, to form new friendships, or at the very least have good social conversations with other people.

Pets help adults with Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia

There is some suggestion that animals are better able to communicate and connect with people suffering from life-altering diseases like Alzheimers and dementia. By providing stress relief and support, even non-trained companion animals can be a boon to those with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

However, there are some aspects to consider before committing to pet ownership – the person with dementia/Alzheimer’s may not want to interact with a pet, or their care might take up too much of your time, leaving little time left to take care of the pet. In such a case, it’s possible to try visits from regular pets instead of owning them outright.

Food for Thought

Most pet owners are clear about the immediate joys that come with sharing their lives. Many of us remain unaware of the physical and mental health benefits that can also accompany the pleasure of having pets. Most importantly, having a pet is fun. Whether it is a dog, cat, bird, or ferret, owning an animal brings enjoyment to any household.

Owning a pet is a huge responsibility. Make sure to also check in with yourself—physically and mentally. This includes having a lifestyle that could commit to taking care of a pet and being financially responsible for providing them with the best care.

However, suppose you’re worried about the worst scenario, which results in leaving behind family, friends, and your beloved furry companions. In that case, it might put your mind at ease to look into securing health insurance for yourself. Remember, reducing stress is one of the most critical steps to maintaining a healthy, well-balanced life!
