Wrote 1,000-Word Article Today March 21, 2017 bizadmin Today, I wrote slightly more than 1,000 word article for Booking.com on hotels in Veysonnaz, Switzerland. It is a curated article, meaning that research is required with pictures added for eye candy including the address, opening times, cost in USD and how to get there. It took me the whole morning till lunch time before it was completed and sent for submission. Today, I was surprised to see on Adwords, advertisements on Booking.com on 2 of the hotels that I covered and also on Facebook. Writing to me is cathartic, and never a chore. Wait till you have to do hard core programming! I disliked programming in my university days and know very little about it. But now with a clear mind and peaceful heart, I bought a book on PHP and reading it in my own sweet time when I am in the mood. There is no more pressure anymore to perform unlike in the university days. I have also registered for an online course to learn up for free some tips on PHP that was conducted by UTM – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Johor. The course was introduced by reading a book written by a Malay author that was bought in Kinokuniya bookstore at KLCC. Such is my determination to relearn what I need to know from my IT background. But I am more of an admin person working on Microsoft Office applications, editing brochures and typing quotations. Once in a while, I will update the company website with reference projects that are completed all over Malaysia. Working and travelling is now part and parcel of my life. It is a blessing in disguise that I don’t have children to bog me down with chores, so that I can concentrate fully on my job at hand. Sometimes I will also freelance writing articles and do microjobs, take surveys, etc. In the past, getting approved by Adsense was easy. But now with so many high quality websites and lots of content, I have to be more stringent and include more news about my working life and just about anything that comes to mind to be approved again. There is no free lunch in this world. You have to labour and work hard for it to save up for your retirement; so that it will be golden and not woeful having to beg in the streets on the extreme side by comparison. I also need to change by complaining less to my partner. The Bible tells us this: “Be careful for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, lets your requests be made known to God”. Thus, I also spent more quiet time with God sharing my issues in life so that He can answer my prayers in His time. From experience, by complaining to fellow human beings, it only brings added pressures, stress and wrong advise that makes things worse than they are. And the advantage is that, it is a secret. Nobody knows your issues in life and neighbours don’t have to know all your secrets. And don’t wash dirty linen in public. It only makes things worse where your home should be a sanctuary instead.

I guess our room was both sea view and hill view facing in Tanjung Bungah. Paradise hotel was formerly owned by Berjaya which was unsuccessful and the elevator took 15 minutes to arrive in the good old days! With the new management, they have upgraded the elevator and it was faster now, even though we had to wait some time due to peak period as many guests were checking out before 1pm. Otherwise it will be chargeable after 1:00pm. Overall, the stay was worth is since it is located by the beach with splendid views of the hills and seas. It is a getaway for 1 night from all the stress of work and busyness in the daily grind. I was rejuvenated and felt relaxed and it was therapeutic for the soul. Going for holidays now and then such as this is certainly worth the time and effort in driving up the winding roads to Tanjung Tokong in Penang. I am not saying work is a burden. It is good as I need to put food on the table for my family especially dad with my monthly contribution of RM 1,050 for the household expenses. With this, they are able to eat out every day and mum does not have to cook for a regimen anymore unlike in the past.
Eating Less to Lose Weight March 13, 2017 bizadmin I lost 6 kg already from 83kg and will keep eating half or less to lose more weight for a healthier BMI (Body Mass Index). Just Google that up. For dinner, today, I shall have ‘pink jambu’ bought from Tapah Rest and Relax area along North-South Highway as I was coming back to Penang from KL. I gave a packet to my parents and they enjoy it. I have a digital weighing scale that can measure up to 1 decimal point like 76.9kg. At the moment, the car is sent for repair because of too much leaking of the engine oil and it was bought second-hand. And we took a Grab car back for only RM 5 per short trip. I gave the driver a maximum 5 star review so that he can continue to pick up passengers. The Mercedes Benz centre is located along Weld Quay and the boss specialises in repairing old and new Mercedes. Just directly opposite is CF cafe where most of the hawker stalls are and it also belongs to the same boss, Chin Fook, hence, the initials CF cafe. He has a datukship and drives a brand new Merc. He proposed to sell a white rather new second hand Merc for RM 50k, but my boss is hesitating because he needs the cash to run his business and pay suppliers, although he may have the money to purchase it.
Blessed to Work at Home March 12, 2017 bizadmin I never take my job for granted and am appreciative for the blessings to work in a home office – a dream job for many with average income from a few sources such as my fixed deposits, rental income and commissions from projects secured via my company website OlympicVenture.com. I also write articles now and then for some allowance, sell stamps and used printer ink cartridges. My boss is my spouse at the moment and 19 years my senior. We may be partners in business, but he is still the commander-in-chief. As long as I complete the company work like preparing invoices, Purchase Receive for GST input tax, etc, he is ok. But if I pay too much attention on my own work, he can go ballistic. This is also probably because he had set up 7 different companies in the past including a hardware shop in Johor which never really took off. As a result, he had to downgrade from a double storey semi-detached house to a small single storey terrace house due to financial difficulties. Now we make enough money to pay back his various debts, including income tax which he was not supposed to pay but due to wrong move, he is now liable for payments every 2 months. It has reduced to about RM 10k now from RM 35k in the past. He is also paying back his second sister. I find it strange that all the while she never asked for her money back for more than 10 years and it appears to have been given to him. But since he is making some cash and more prosperous than before coming to Penang, it is payback time to the debtors. Through God’s grace, we met online, he became my website customer and now business partner staying together in a condo in Penang Times Square. We get a few enquiries almost every day from our company website that I built and based on search, clients find us through Google. I am thankful for the knowledge and skill to build a fully functional website that pulls in customers and brings in projects for our Bangladeshi workers so that all of us can put food on the table for our respective families. At the moment dad asked for RM 1,050 or 233.33 USD a month as contribution to the household expenses from me, with RM 250 going to the Catholic church construction and the rest for his expenditure. I am happy to be able to contribute this much and it is pay back time to him who taught us this: Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; Teach a man How to fish and you feed him a lifetime!
Going to KL Tomorrow February 13, 2017 bizadmin My colleague will be driving down to KL early tomorrow morning for an interview and thereafter, they will issue us a PO or purchase order. We shall be in KL for 3 days or so before returning to Penang to pay the workers’ including myself for the half month salary on the 16th or 17th February. It is about time for EPF to declare their dividends and so far, they have been very quiet about it. I don’t know if it will increase, stay the same at 6.4% like last year or even decrease. Hope Malaysia can learn from its neighbour, the little red dot of Singapore to be more transparent and corrupt free.
