Getting Finance from Banks for your Startups

Getting Finance from Banks for your Startups

To get financing from your banks, you have to have a good score on your CTOS and CCRIS. CTOS is a private company which provides credit reporting and is widely used by financial institutions to determine an applicant’s creditworthiness aside from using CCRIS, an acronym for the Central Credit Reference Information System. You can log in to check via the websites by googling for them and see your own credit scores. If you are in the green region, it means banks are after you to loan you money as it shows you are a good paymaster and pay on time.

However, if you are in the red zone, then good luck to you in getting financing from banks for your startups. Many milliennials prefer to be their own boss to escape the drudgery of working for a boss that pays you enough so that you won’t resign with plenty of work and long hours. How do I know? I have been in this line before working from MNCs to banks, schools, etc.

Startups need financing to be successful initially with higher chance of making it in the first 5 years of doing business. It can be in the IT line offering web designing or business consultation and even legal firms or medical clinics. You will need ‘bullets’ or cash to run the show and pay for bills, rental, staff salaries, etc. Hence it is pertinent to brainstorm carefully what your strengths are and passion to start a company with loans from the banks for any startups.

The Lean Startup Book from Amazon

Today, I am going to introduce a book from Amazon: The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses in Hardcover. It is authored by Eric Ries and is a bestseller on the e-commerce platform.

Most startups fail. But many of those failures are preventable.  The Lean Startup is a new approach being adopted across the globe, changing the way companies are built and new products are launched.

Eric Ries defines a startup as an organization dedicated to creating something new under conditions of extreme uncertainty. This is just as true for one person in a garage or a group of seasoned professionals in a Fortune 500 boardroom. What they have in common is a mission to penetrate that fog of uncertainty to discover a successful path to a sustainable business.

The Lean Startup Startup offers companies that are both more capital efficient and that leverage human creativity more effectively.  Inspired by lessons from lean manufacturing, it relies on “validated learning,” rapid successful startups, as well as a number of counter-intuitive practices that shorten product development cycles, measure actual progress without resorting to vanity metrics, and learn what customers really want. It enables a company to shift directions with agility, altering plans inch-by-inch, minute by minute.

Rather than wasting time creating elaborate business plans, The Lean Startup offers entrepreneurs – in companies of all sizes – a way to test their vision continuously, to adapt and adjust before it’s too late. #5 Blogging

As an introvert, I have to say that this is my very favorite way to make money from home. I started my blog in 2016 after working several different online jobs.

Blogging is the most flexible work schedule, because I am the one who sets the schedule. My income continues to grow beyond what I would have ever made working for other online companies.

Bloggers make money by selling their own products, selling other people’s products (affiliate marketing), offering services, and ads placed on the website.

Don’t expect to start making money immediately, it can be a very slow process especially if you are learning as you go!

There are bloggers like me who are making $2000 per month and there are bloggers who are making $100,000 or more per month

Sitting at a computer creating graphic designs is a good way for quiet people who are creative to make money from home. Graphic design is both creative and skilled work.

Since every business both locally and globally needs graphic design work to stay competitive there is no doubt that you will be able to find work. You can design things from business cards, business logos, shirts, signs, product design, and so much more.

While you don’t need a degree to become a graphic designer, you will need to have the skills. You may want to consider entry level jobs for graphic design.

#7 Merch by Amazon

This is similar to graphic design, but it is design specific for clothing that can be sold on Amazon through the Merch by Amazon program.

Originally the Merch by Amazon program was designed to give app and video game creators an easy way to sell their merchandise. But entrepreneurs found out about the platform and started creating shirts that people love, and it’s turned into an actual job that you can do working from home!

Basically you research a design for a specific niche. An example could be “introverts.” You would research something that stands out for introverts and create the design. Upload it to the Merch by Amazon platform and then it goes on sale on Amazon.

When people purchase your shirt, you earn a commission for that sale! It’s kind of like earning passive income once you do all the hard work up front.

The amount of money you can make from selling t-shirts on Amazon is unlimited right now. However, it can take awhile to start earning, especially if you have to learn the skills to research, create, and sell on Amazon.

There are content sites that will pay you to write for them as long as you have knowledge about what you are writing about.

So many businesses today need to have content on their websites, social media, and newsletters. Content is what makes businesses stay relevant and helps them be found on search engines (think Google!).

You can make between $50 – $1000+ writing as a freelance writer.  Just so we are clear…you’re not going to start out making $1000 as a newbie freelance writer, but over time as you develop your writing skills there is great potential to grow your income.

Pay for this job depends on the number of books you sell.

#13 Photographer

I think becoming a photographer would be kind of stressful for an introvert especially if you are taking pictures of special events or large groups of people (family photos).

There are other fields that you can go into that have a growing demand for quality images.

Stock Photos

As a blogger I purchase stock photos for $1 to $0.50 per image with a license to reuse and resize. Some businesses pay $5 – $25 per image on sites like Shutter Stock. You could sell your images to bigger platforms or you could start your own business selling stock photos to online business entrepreneurs.

Images that are in demand are food images, seasonal images, office layouts (desk, computer, planners), and landscapes. Hint: none of them involve people 😉

Senior Portraits

I remember getting my senior portraits done in about 30 minutes. I wore the traditional black drape and then had another outfit that I changed into…and that’s it! Today senior portraits are an experience. It’s all about working one on one with a senior to let their personality shine through the pictures. These photo sessions range from $500 to $1500 depending on the experience of the photographer.

Pay for this job approximately $500 per month or more.

#14 Become an at  Home Chef

You know how people are so busy that they don’t have time to plan out healthy meals for their families? Those people need an at home chef.

Who wouldn’t love to order a healthy home cooked meal that’s sent to their door?

If you love to cook and prepare meals, then maybe you should consider starting a chef side business. This would be a great job for introverts because you would be left alone to do all the work on your own in the kitchen.

Pay for this job ranges from $18,000 – $60,000 per year.

#15 IT Specialist

If you are into computer sciences, then an IT (information technology) specialist position could be a work from home job that you do as freelance. You could work remotely if you are familiar with software programs and can help people walk through popular computer programs.

Technical difficulties drive everyone crazy, especially when you don’t know anything tech-y. People are using computers every day and getting stuck. You can provide the support needed to solve their problem!

Most jobs in the computer world pay well and this is no exception.

Pay for this job ranges from $50,000 to $80,000.

Still, not sure where to start?

Looking for a work from home job can feel overwhelming.

You don’t want to be scammed, you don’t want to feel dumb for thinking that there really could be a different way to make money…

I totally get that!

3 years ago, I was standing in your shoes wondering if all this work from home stuff was for real. And I honestly was stuck, because I didn’t know where to start.

After a failed attempt at running an Etsy shop, I decided that I would start small…

I started taking surveys online. (My favorite that I still use every month is Survey Junkie.)

Then I decided to give search engine evaluation a try.

I actually started making money…more than I was making at my part time job as a preschool teacher.

That’s when I knew that this whole work at home thing could be real with the right set of skills and a lot of hard work!

I figured out a way to make money at home that works for me and my family. Now I’m helping people like you avoid the mistakes I made and find real ways to work from home.

You’re only one job away from…

Starting from Zero: How This First-Time Entrepreneur Found Success Online

In this story, there’s no fancy business degrees, no network of knowledgeable mentors, and no pile of money to draw from. It’s just a story of a regular kid who started from zero and figured out the path to business success all on his own, pushing through the struggles and setbacks along the way.

Yuanda Wang is 21 years old and from Hamilton, Ontario. He’s spent the past year and a bit exploring the world of e-commerce and dropshipping and has grown his most recent store to $18,000 revenue in four months. But this success almost didn’t happen for Yuanda, who until recently was planning to pursue a very different path in life.

Starting From Zero: An Average Kid

“A little over a year ago, and before that, I was just an average kid,” he says.  “I was in high school, and then I went to university and I had no clue what I wanted to do when I got older.”

So following the advice of his parents, Yuanda enrolled to study life sciences at university.

“At that time my parents wanted me to become a doctor, so I just went along with that path. I was like, ‘Oh, it seems like a good job, it pays well. I might go ahead and study life sciences and see where it leads me,’” he says.

At the same time, Yuanda was spending a lot of time on forums about online businesses. He’d browse the forum and read stories of entrepreneurs launching and running their businesses. He’d hear all about the endless new ways that it was possible to start an online business and the seemingly endless potential that lay out there in the big world wide web. At 15 years old he even tried to make a little money with affiliate marketing (it didn’t result in much). But as he began to read more about different online businesses like e-commerce, he started to get curious.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

“When I started reading about entrepreneurship, e-commerce and online marketing, that really interested me. I never found anything that interesting before,” he says. “I would watch YouTube videos, and I would read articles endlessly. That’s the first time that I had this feeling of passion for something that I enjoy to do. That’s when my perspective changed completely.”

But Yuanda was starting from zero, and apart from his brief attempt at affiliate marketing, he had no business experience, but more importantly, no money. As much as he was intrigued by the idea of running his own e-commerce business, he knew it was going to be difficult given his current situation.

That’s when he heard about dropshipping. The e-commerce business model would allow him to operate an online store without needing to buy inventory upfront. He’d only pay for the products once they’d already been sold, and his supplier would ship them directly to his customers for him.

“It appealed to me because I didn’t have to take too much of a risk. drop shipping As a student at that time I wasn’t drop shippingworking, so I had I would say $100 in my bank account,” he says. “I thought to start a business would be a very expensive process, but through drop shipping, I realized that it’s very accessible. Anyone can start it as long as you have some money, to begin with for the necessities.”

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

Reframing Failure

Just before Christmas in 2017, he began building his first stores. He used Shopify as the e-commerce platform and used Oberlo to find products from dropshipping suppliers across the world.

He was starting from zero, and unsure of what to sell at first. So he dabbled in a variety of different product niches. He tried selling makeup, and wind up music boxes, and also had a general store stocked with a variety of trending products. He’d spend his evenings after university engrossed in YouTube tutorials and blog articles, trying to learn as much as possible.

It was trial by fire. He was reinvesting all of the money he made from his early stores back into the business, so he had his hard earned money on the line every time he tested a new advertising strategy. And it didn’t always work out.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero“There was one point where I ran a huge advertisement on a big meme page. And it was very expensive. It was around $800 and it didn’t pay off, it didn’t generate that many sales. I lost a lot, would say $400 after expenses, cost of goods, and everything,” he says.

But rather than being knocked back by the loss, he decided to reframe things.

“That was a hard moment, but for me, the way I view failure is that it’s just a temporary thing. If you fail, you learn something from the process. You learn that you made a mistake and it will only help you to grow more,” he says. “So even in times of hardship, I understand that it’s gonna be hard, you’re gonna fail sometimes, but it’s more so how you react to the failure rather than how you react to the wins that determine your success.”

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

Finding His Winning Product

His early stores made a little money, but it wasn’t until his latest store that things started to take off. And it was all thanks to the discovery of one product, an iPhone adapter.

The adapter, which sits in the phone accessories niche, took his store from zero to over $18,000 in sales in just four months.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

“This product, in particular, I have a friend that I talked to about dropshipping that I met through my Facebook group, and then he showed me that his store sold this product in the past, and his store did $20,000 in revenue in a month,” he says.

He searched for a supplier of the same product and found one on AliExpress. To assess the competition level, he looked closely at the product’s order history, where he noticed there had been a flood of orders from AliExpress customers.

“In the order history, you can usually tell if someone is drop shipping,” he says.

His first tactic is to look closely at the timestamps of the orders. If there’s a string of orders placed around the same time, that means it’s usually a drop shipper who is bulk fulfilling their orders. The delivery location can provide hints too. Most organic sales on AliExpress are delivered to European customers, but most drop shippers sell products delivered to the United States.

So if you see a whole lot of stars and stripes in the order history, it’s safe to assume this product is currently being drop shipped.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

This trick, Yuanda believes, is crucial to finding potential winning products.

“I think one of the biggest criteria now that I look for in products is organic sales from people who use AliExpress as consumers and not drop shippers. That shows that there is a demand for the product, but in that exact moment that supplier is not drop shipping heavily, so you have an opportunity to come in and get a slice of the pie,” he says.

Niche Check: Phone Accessories

The phone accessories niche that Yuanda chose is brimming with potential. Google Trends shows us that it’s a niche that has remained popular over the past five years, and it’s not going anywhere.

The great thing about the phone accessories market is that it’s huge. It’s estimated that there are more than 7 billion mobile phones in use in the world. In the US alone, that number is more than 327 million. Even if you manage to capture just 0.001% of the US market, you’ll have 327,000 potential phones to accessorize.

If you choose to sell phone accessories, you can sell products like phone cases, wireless chargers, or ring holders. And because phones are so personal and important in our lives, people want to buy products that match their style. This means there is a potentially limitless amount of designs you could offer.

And it’s not just Yuanda who has made it big selling phone accessories. Check out other these success stories from phone accessory entrepreneurs:

The Small Details That Make a Big Difference

When he launched his phone accessories, Yuanda was sure about two things:

  1. He wanted his store to feel like a premium brand
  2. Advertising doesn’t work if it looks like advertising

Yuanda has worked hard to make the first one true, focusing on the details of his store experience to communicate a premium brand feel. The first step to doing this was to include just one type of product on his store, with three variations in style. Because of this, he was able to use a stripped back variation of the theme Brooklyn, which funnels users quickly towards the “Shop Now” or “Add to Cart” buttons.

“The idea is that I wanted to make the store look like a brand, not a dropshipping store, and not a general store. It’s a one-product store that looks like a real brand,” he says. “Many general stores are just random collection of products. And I feel like as soon as someone sees a random collection of products, they automatically think of Amazon and then they start thinking, ‘Oh can I get a better price on Amazon?’ And that’s when you lose out.”

But it doesn’t end there. Yuanda has been thinking about the even smaller details. (Like decimal points small.)

“Something that I’ve recently been doing is reading a lot about pricing. I think one thing people are often getting absolutely wrong in e-commerce is the way they do their pricing,” he says.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

“So a lot of people, they always recommend ending your price in 0.99. But I noticed that the only people who really do that are retail brands like Walmart, Loblaws, and some e-commerce brands like Amazon. So these are all really big retailers, and people come to Amazon and Walmart because they want the best price. But when you are trying to convince an impulse purchaser, you don’t want them to think of price at all. You want them to think of your product as a premium product that they can only get from this one site. So the way I do my pricing now is I just leave them at whole numbers like $20 or $22. It gives it that professional brand feel. Big brands like Nike that sell online, none of them use 99 cent pricing, they use $17, $47, or $100 or something like that.”

For his advertising, he stuck firmly to the belief that the best ads don’t look like ads.

“That’s something that I believe in, creating content to post that does not look like an ad. Because if it looks like an ad, people won’t like it, instead they’ll scroll by. Then you’ll have a harder time getting it shown to people due to the Instagram algorithm favoring posts that have high engagement,” he says.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

But it took a while to get to this realization, and he admits that when he was just starting, his ads needed a lot of improvement.

“When I started, I didn’t know how to make engaging content at all,” he says. “The difference between now and then is now I understand that people don’t want to see ads, so you have to make your ads super subtle, make them in a way that it doesn’t seem like an ad.”

His strategy now is to create content for Instagram that features his product, but also fits seamlessly within his audience’s newsfeed. Then he pays related niche accounts with large followings to repost it to their followers.

“For example, some of my ads would look like a meme. It would just look like a very organic post that does not look like an advertisement,” he says.

Yuanda Wang - Starting From Zero

To learn more about Yuanda’s advertising strategy, check out his mini case study video.

After experimenting with the Instagram shoutouts tactic in his earlier stores, he already had the process down pat by the time he launched his phone accessories store.

“For my phone store, I knew exactly what to do. I’d run more ads, find new pages to run them on, then keep stacking. And pretty quickly I was hitting $300 a day in revenue consistently within a week or so of launching the store. So it was pretty profitable right off the bat,” he says.

Advice for Beginners

Even though Yuanda was able to start with zero and reinvest his profits bit by bit to help his business grow, he advises that this probably isn’t the best approach.

“I think a really important piece of advice is you need money to start,” he says. “If you don’t have money, and you wanna start your own dropshipping business, you need to find a way to get money. You need to either get a job, start freelance work, find some way or some source of income.”

He recalls how frustrating it was for him to be in that position, without enough cash flow to grow his business.

“I was in that stage, where I had no money to spend on my dropshipping business. Even though I had made sales with it, I wasn’t able to scale it. Last Christmas, I made sales with my music box store, but I wasn’t able to scale it because I simply didn’t have the money,” he says.

“Over the summer, I ended up getting a job, part-time job working in an office. And it was the exact moment that I got this job that my second dropshipping store started making incremental sales. I think it’s because I had that confidence in the fact that I have money coming in, so I can spend on ads without being worried or scared.”

He suggests a startup budget of $1,000 so that you’ll have enough buffer to test different products and scale up with what’s working. After that point, you should be able to begin to generate sales and reinvest your revenue back into more ads for the business.

But importantly, he warns that you have to be comfortable with the idea of burning through it all.

“Scared money doesn’t make any money,” he says. (And that’s a point that Young Jeezy agrees with him on.)

The Impact of Starting His Business

Starting his e-commerce businesses set Yuanda off on a very different path to what he had planned a couple of years ago. It’s even made him rethink his path towards a career as a doctor.

“I’m still studying science, but I ended up swapping to another type of science, which is psychology,” he says. “I feel like it’s been helpful in understanding how to do my writing, copywriting my product description, and also understanding the mind of a customer or potential customer when they’re scrolling through social media.”

But the impact of the business has been greater than the degree he’ll be leaving university with, it’s transformed his outlook on life, and given it a whole new purpose.

“It has impacted me in so many good ways. Starting my business has given me a good source of money to live off of while I’m in university, but I think it’s also really changed me to be a better person,” he says.

“Before I would spend my free time just lounging around watching Netflix, and not really being productive. And now I feel like it’s given me a sense of purpose. When I wake up in the morning, I have something that I know I can work on and it can be a bigger thing that really motivates me to get out of bed and start working hard right away.”

Ghee Contract Manufacturing or Ghee Private Label

I came across the wonders of ghee initially when I first began out by myself for personal pursuit of optimal digestive wellness. I’ve been utilizing it let’s focus on around five years these types of its long shelf existence, dietary benefits, and amazing culinary versatility; it’s almost totally replaced using butter and lots of other cooking oils within my home. For more information on ghee contract manufacturing, visit our website today!

Historic routes

People in the western world might be less acquainted with ghee, and it is lovely dietary profile because it originated from South Asia. Ghee continues to be an essential staple in Indian cuisine for hundreds of years as well as in Asian cultures it’s famous because of its healing characteristics. Ghee isn’t just advantageous for your system but also for your brain. It’s one among the critical foods for safeguarding and adding nourishment to the healthiness of your skin, in addition to maintaining proper digestion and mental clearness.

Dietary composition and highlights

Ghee contains a mix of both saturated and unsaturated fats and includes short-chained fats which make it simple to digest. It’s incredibly wealthy in butyric acidity, a brief-chain essential fatty acid that’s advantageous in assisting in keeping the healthiness of cells that line the gastrointestinal tract. Ghee can also be wealthy in antioxidants, contains conjugated linoleic acidity and it is an excellent resource of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.

3 Tips about how to select a high-quality Ghee:

Ghee is instantly obtainable in most supermarkets and nutrition stores now, however now you ask,, how can you start picking one that’s top quality? Here are a couple of tips which I feel are fundamental when choosing high quality ghee.

1. Make sure you browse the label and discover the next:

Where’s it created – Could it be a nearby organic dairy farm?

Possess the cow’s been grass given?

Were they given love and attention?

Has got the butter been typically churned and it is it certified organic?

Are there more ingredients added – colors, flavors, and preservatives, etc.?

2. Involve your senses when creating your decision:

Exactly what does it smell of – is there a wealthy, sweet, nutty aroma?

What’s the texture like – could it be blissfully creamy having a slightly grainy texture?

What’s the color like – Could it be an attractive, wealthy golden color?

Precisely what does it taste like – Could it be full of flavor?

3. What’s the packaging like:

Ghee ought to be packaged in glass jars to make sure that there aren’t any nasty chemicals from plastics or cans leaching into the ghee in the packaging.

For me, milk products which have been created from creatures that graze on eco-friendly organic pastures ought to always be the consumer’s priority, because the nutrient profile and health advantages of these goods are far superior then individuals that aren’t.

Storage

Ghee consists almost entirely of fat so that it does not require any refrigeration. Additionally, it includes a considerably longer shelf existence than butter. It’s best stored at 70 degrees inside an awesome, dark place from direct heat and lightweight. Once opened up it always includes a shelf existence close to 12 several weeks. A jar of ghee is lucky to last around 3-4 days within my house.

Cooking with ghee:

Ghee is mainly utilized as a cooking fat. We have a very high smoke point (around 480 degrees F), which makes it an excellent option for frying with because it does not burn quickly. Also, ghee is amazingly versatile – much more than you most likely understand. I use it regularly for an additional:

roasting spuds along with other root vegetables like parsnips and beets

whipping in the odd curry

a butter substitute when baking cakes

drizzling over popcorn

mixing with garlic clove and parsley to make gluten-free garlic clove bread

sautéing vegetables

making scrambled eggs

as well as distributing on my small toast after I have exhaust butter!

How’s our ghee made?

Our Ghee is made of small batches of typically churned quality British butter and cooked gradually for six to eight hrs to rid it associated with impurities. This produces pure ghee having a lovely scent and color. There aren’t any added flavorings, preservative or colorings.

Are ghee lactose and casein free?

I have started to the outcome that ghee might or might not be appropriate for those who are lactose and casein intolerant. I’ve some buddies who are fine by using it yet others that can’t tolerate it whatsoever. Individuals must determine on their own if ghee is appropriate on their behalf or otherwise. The majority of the lactose and casein is taken away throughout the manufacturing process, yet it’s entirely possible that small amounts can always stay in some commercially created products. Therefore people who are incredibly sensitive may react when eating ghee and really should, therefore, most likely cure it. If you’re highly responsive to milk proteins and experience digestive upset and respiratory system problems, you will want to select ghee which has had the majority of the milk solids removed or even better it’s most likely better to make your personal.

Making your ghee is simple. I’ve carried this out a few occasions now also it labored out wonderfully. It could be an extended process so you will need to maintain the atmosphere as well as be ready to stay inside for many hrs. Want to know more about ghee private label? How to start a craft business that actually makes money

Have you ever wondered how to start a craft business? This post is for you – it’s packed full of tips and tricks to help you start a craft business today!

Do you love to make crafts?

Could you spend hours upon hours covered in glue and glitter?

Are you interested in learning how to start a craft business of your own?

Welcome, you’re in the right place!

I’ve been a crafter since the beginning of time (well, my time anyway) and I have a wide variety of crafting skills from applique to scrapbooking.

I’m a “jane of all trades” when it comes to crafts, and I’m happy to say that I love working with all mediums (at least those I’ve tried!).

Crafting is so much fun, why stick with just one thing?

As you know, I’ve been running my own business for ten years, and throughout those years I’ve mostly stuck with stationery and paper goods.

What can I say? I’ve got a love of paper.

However, I’ve also dipped my toes into some other craft businesses including soap making, candy making, and even some woodworking.

I’ve sold artwork, photographs and once, I tried to sell a few sewing projects…but I’ve not very good at it!

I’ve tried out a lot of things over the years and even though some of my businesses have “floated down the river,” I’ve learned A LOT about how to start a craft business.

So, today I’m taking you from idea to bank account, and I’m going to teach you how to start a craft business that you will love! I’m sharing my best tips and tricks for creating a company that you can be proud of sharing with the world.

So, let’s get started, shall we?

What Will You Sell?

This is by far the hardest question of them all to answer when you are starting a craft business. What can you sell that people will want to buy?

It’s a tough one, and unfortunately, there is no straight answer. People buy strange things. What might seem unusual to you might seem totally off the wall to me.

So, the real question isn’t what will people buy, but what are YOU good at making?

What do you enjoy creating that you can see yourself doing over and over and over and over and over again?

When you have the answer to that question, you’ll know what to sell. Because if you can show passion in your work, no matter what it is, then, people will buy it. You have to prove to people that your product is so special to you, that it has to be unique to them, too. And then, they’ll not only buy it, but they’ll also beg for it.

Don’t create a hodgepodge of crafts! Take the time to figure out where you want to fit in the craft world. I’m not saying you need to choose a single product and stick to it forever, but consider starting with a specific category.

For example, my business is stationery and paper goods, but that doesn’t mean I’m limited to just paper products. It just says that I should stick with products for the home and office. My customer base would think I’m crazy if I started selling underwear.

Take some time and think about what you want to make and what you want to sell.

Where Will You Buy Materials?

Once you’ve considered what you will sell, it’s time to make a list of materials. Don’t go rushing to your local craft store and buy a bunch of junk!

Take the time, sit down and write out a list of all the materials you need to start a craft business in the field you’ve chosen.

For example, if you’ve chosen to make t-shirts, you’ll need:

  1. t-shirts
  2. design software
  3. printer
  4. heat press

After you’ve written out your list of materials, start looking for discounts and coupons from your favorite craft stores.

Don’t rush out and buy wholesale, but buy smart! Start small and work your way up to buying your materials in bulk quantities.

Where Will You Sell Your Crafts?

Do you plan to start a craft business online or will you be selling your wares locally?

If you are going to sell online, I highly recommend you get your start with Etsy. I’ve been selling there for over ten years, and I love every minute of it.

Of course, you could always sell your crafts on eBay or Craigslist, as well, but I think Etsy is the better choice.

Call me bias, but I make a decent income there every month, and I’m terrible at marketing. If it weren’t for the Etsy search, I wouldn’t have half the sales.

If selling your wares locally is your thing, then start researching craft shows, flea markets, farmers markets and fairs and festivals in your area.

Most of these events will have a website or at the least a Facebook page. Find the contact info for vendors and sign up to start selling.

What Licenses Does Your Type of Business Require?

I can’t help you much here, but most states require you to have at least a peddler’s license and a sales tax id number of selling your goods.

Go to your state’s website and research what licenses and permits are required for your type of business.

Instead of blowing all your money on some crazy marketing scheme, get the word out by word of mouth, create a press release for your local paper, start a blog and tell the world on social media.

When your craft business takes off, then you can consider spending a little bit of money on Facebook ads, Pinterest Ads and a crazy television commercial. But, for now, save your money.

Through this, you’ll have a basic understanding of how to start a craft business, regardless of your specialty. It’s a lot of work, my friends.

Some of it isn’t fun, there are days when you’ll want to run, screaming, toward the mountains or something, but in the end, it’s all worth it.

Honestly, working for yourself, watching something that you create come to fruition? There is no better feeling.
