Going to KL in a while’s time September 22, 2016 bizadmin Today is Thursday and it is morning at 9:25am. I will be going to KL with my colleague and return on Sunday, also to hear free public talk on Investment at Mid Valley CityMall Halls 2 and 3. There are several speakers talking for 40 minutes each for each day and divided into several sessions per day. There is a goodie bag, free ice-cream and other freebies dished out for the participants. There is also a talk by Bank Negara, PRS, EPF, etc. I hope to have a good time there and learn something to grow my savings. Wish me luck!
Went for Star Walk 2016 September 19, 2016 bizadmin 2 Sundays ago, on 11th September 2016, I went for Star Walk with my spouse. It was a 7-km non-competitive walk with prizes and lucky draws at the end of the walk, should you finish within the 2-hour limit. After that, for the tired ones who could not complete the walk, a sweeper bus will pick up the stranded walkers and take them to the finishing point. There’s an African dance performance, Line dancing for those who still have an iota of energy left, plenty of jazzy music, etc. There were some credit card promotions and Julie’s biscuits sale going on too. Participants will get free rounds of 100 plus drinks and chocolate malt with strawberry-flavored or corn-flavored buns and free The Star newspapers. You will also get a certificate of participation as you queue for it at the finishing line. The slight rain did not dampen our spirits as we came armed with an umbrella. Now in KL August 19, 2016 bizadmin I went to 3 places yesterday in KL having set out at 6:30am for the project interview in the morning and then headed to 2 other places before calling it home. Had dinner at Da Men which is managed by Pavilion for its shopping mall. Later on, after lunch, will head to Ipoh to see a project and then go back to Penang. So effectively, I stayed for 1 night in KL in my small condo. A depressed young businessman recently committed suicide on the 5th level carpark of the condo, probably due to family relationship problems. I can only pray that may perpetual light shine upon his departed soul. Such a young man at his prime age of 34 passed on prematurely due to stress and pressure!
Came Back from KL August 8, 2016 bizadmin I came back from KL a few days ago, having spent almost a week there. At our small condo, there were two short-term exhibitions and displays for sale on the first floor of Rhythm Avenue which is beginning to buzz with activity, from a sleepy condo with tenant after tenant moving out due to rampant corruption by the previous management headed by ‘ah boy’. Now things have improved a lot but they are still having legal tussle with the previous management for claims. I just hope the new management will win the case and they are I guess, more transparent with things.
Software to Upload your Computer Files July 2, 2016 bizadmin There is a paid software that is user-friendly for uploading images and files to your website or blog. It is called Ipswitch WS-FTP 12. FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol which is a set of rules. On the left side of the window of this software when executed, are your computer files while on the right side, are your website files if you selected the correct folder. Different hosting companies have different locations of your main file which is index.htm or index.php. Some of these files are located in the public folder of HTML. It is recommended that you create a separate folder called ‘Images’ to store all your image files with ending extentions like .gif, .png, .jpg, .tif, etc. This is to separate the image files from the html files or php files. HTML is an abbreviation for Hypertext Markup Language which is a set of tags to control the layout and look of your website pages. I have had experience developing websites for clients worldwide during my freelancing days way back in 2001 before taking up a full time job as an IT executive for a local sports surfacing company. Well, these are just my 2 cents of computer tips for your information. Till next time, Enjoy!
Interesting Places to Visit at Penang Hill June 28, 2016 bizadmin This is Penang Hill’s entrance, the most and only famous hill patronised by tourists worldwide in Penang. There is Bellevue Hotel right at the top since time immemorial and I am not sure if they have also refurbished the old hotel, but under DAP’s rule, things have certainly look much better than it was before with more attractions and improvements. Waiting time is about 20 minutes or less with a long queue; hence the train is much faster now. When you reach to the top, this is the view you will encounter as you disembark on the left side of the train if you are facing the hill. There is Owl Museum and Cliff Cafe. If you would take a walk up to the top of the above structures, you will encounter ‘Love Locks’ similar to the one in Paris’ Love Lock Bridge. But this is safer and will not weigh down the metal holders as they are made of pink plastics. You can sign on the pink love locks with your name and that of your loved one or husband or spouse to seal your eternal love and bonding. Simply look for an empty one. Tired of walking? Just pay RM30 for the buggy service with a tour guide cum driver to ferry you around the place and along the way, you can see a few privately owned mansions atop the hill, with one supposedly owned by Ananda Krishnan, Maxis’ head honcho, a Malaysian businessman and philanthropist. Nicknamed A K, currently he is estimated to have a net worth of US$7.9 billion according to Forbes’ latest annual report. At the end of the route, there is Monkey Cup walk-about tour with commentary from a guide. For the adventurous, you can also access Penang Hill by hiking up via Moon Gate in Tanjung Bungah or take a 4-wheel drive or SUV up the hill road. Take a walk in Penang Hill’s latest experience called ‘The Habitat’, experiencing breathtaking vistas of a fragrant jungle walk. After some walking around and viewing ‘The Habitat’, you can have your food at Cliff Cafe near the train station. This is a banner showing the wide repertoire of delicious desserts ranging from RM4 to RM20 to choose from. The local desserts will quench your thirst after some exploration around the hill. Inside the Cliff Cafe are 2-3 souvenir shops selling a plethora of fridge magnets, including Hard Rock Cafe Penang t-shirts, plus a host of other memorable items. The ambience is made of wood and you could feel like you are in Papa Rich Restaurant, well known for its wooden interior. After a round of chendol at the Cliff Cafe, take a walk downstairs to Owl Museum. The first museum of its kind in Southeast Asia, the Owl Museum displays a collection of owl-inspired artifacts, sculptures and paintings created by various artists across the continent. There are souvenirs related to owls including t-shirts and fridge magnets for the buying. At the exit of Owl Museum, take some flights of stairs up to reach another food cafe where you can see hand wax art as shown above. Simply dip your hand into the warm wax for it to form the shape and the process is fast with your model hand wax finished in a jiffy. You can make your own hand wax creation in various colours too. As you come out from Cliff Cafe, you will hear loud chirps of a cockatoo and a blue-and-yellow feathered parrot that seems to call out “come take photos with us”. For RM15 you can take your favourite photos holding the birds. There is also an iguana in a cage for the bold-hearted and a python which we did not see. On the way up from exotic pets instant photo taking, you can walk up to an upmarket restaurant called David Brown’s Strawberry Hill @ Penang Hill. We had the signature dish – chicken and mushroom pie for RM48 with Virgin Pina Colada without alcohol and a cappuccino for RM94 total, including 6% GST and 10% service charge. There are several binoculars at RM1 for 2 minutes of viewing at the viewing deck. Stools of various heights are catered to children of various ages for them to see the whole of Georgetown. Perched atop Penang Hill at a breathtaking 800 meters above sea level, visitors will literally get a bird’s eye view of the island. As you walk nearer to the train station, there is a high lift to take you down to the ground, around 2-3 storeys height, instead of using the long stairs for more nature walk. And if you are tired, just head for the lift up again. There are rest rooms at the station before taking the train down back home again. That wraps up your visit to Penang Hill.
Why Your Kids Should Experience Balloon Wonderland in 1st Avenue Mall June 19, 2016 bizadmin 1st Avenue Mall is just a stone’s throw away from M Mall and is located near KOMTAR and Prangin Mall. Among the 3 landmark buildings in its vicinity, it is the latest building to add to the attraction, being completed a couple of years back, from an open sandy carpark. Frequently, there are balloon wonderlands with various themes being held here, which I believe is from the same establishment company. There is a full size inflated dinosaur with lots of colourful balloons for your kids to enjoy. There are also flying pterodactyls suspended from the ceiling with balloon clouds as part of the attraction. Your toddlers and kids will surely enjoy this largest balloon wonderland in the north in Penang at 1st Avenue. Here are the instuctions for visitors with kids. It is only RM 12 per entry for 15 minutes per session for balloon pool and 5 minutes for dinosaur virtual reality experience. It is opened to kids from the ages 4 – 12 only and those toddlers below 85 cm, should be accompanied with a parent. There are also balloons sculpted together into a huge tree trunk with leaves at the center. To make it even more fun, look for a golden balloon or ball and win a prize. You don’t have to worry if you miss this dinosaur balloon wonderland as there will be more wonderlands held frequently at 1st Avenue Mall by the event organizer, Visual Art Decoration.
Now in KL June 17, 2016 bizadmin I am now in KL for work and to meet up with clients. Yesterday, went to 3 places with the help of GPS with the first one to collect a cheque and I promptly banked in thereafter. Then went to a condo and another place of an existing client. The day was done and completed with a visit to Sunway Pyramid Mall where we had dinner at the ground floor food court in Sunway Pyramid hotel. Window shopped around at Marks & Spencer and did not find anything interesting to purchase, so I saved money in the end. Before that I aslo went to an open air shopping mall on the way to Subang Airport, located midway though. Had hot tea at Mac Donalds and read newspapers.
