Happy Deepavali to my Readers

Above is an awesome almost completed Rangoli or Kolam of coloured rice beads spread on a piece of white cloth with ink markings as borders for the various colours rice beads to be poured on to make a stunning design on the floor. To see a giant peacock statue with flowers as its colourful feathers that compliments the Rangoli or Kolam, simply click on the right button on the photo and you can scroll to the left for more breathtaking pictures. I happened to be at Subang Airport at the right time some days back and took the opportunity to snap a few photos for posterity. I was waiting for my Malindo flight back at night to Penang after visiting a few places for work.

Now it is just past midnight and you can hear bangs of firecrackers in the wee hours of the morning! Now, where did they get the idea of exploding firecrackers here on a Deepavali? Anyway, hope you enjoy your holidays and for some, they took a long leave over the weekend to travel somewhere exotic or even nearby with loved ones. Happy Deepavali everyone!

Pomeranian Puppy with Plush Toys as Friends

A post shared by David Kuhn (@davidkuhn_ny) on

Isn’t the above picture from my Instagram of a Pomeranian puppy of white and golden colours cute? It is accompanied by its toy friends that resemble it. I love Pomeranians and will only showcase this breed here on my blog as I own one golden Pomeranian pup by the name of Leia. Initially, I named it ‘Princess’, but the second sis says ‘Leia’ sounds better and it is just a mere 1 syllable to pronounce. Leia is more matured now and trained by my spouse. He’s the real master, feeding it and clearing its poo. He also cuts Leia’s long nails and sometimes she will yelp loudly when the nerves are cut as well. As for me, I have the easy job of feeding it its vitamins from a tube and let it lick my finger. Before that, I will tell Leia to sit down and ‘shake hand’ or ‘paw’. Leia is now 1 year and 6 months. She was born on 20th April 2017 and had been given 3 jabs to prevent rabies, etc. as a puppy.

When her period comes, she will be spayed to prevent moody barkings and pain or whatever that comes with the monthly menses, such as tummy cramps and mood swings. I used to have 4 rabbits, 2 red-eyed Holland Lop white rabbits and 2 black-eyed golden Angora mixed with Holland Lop rabbits. The names were Snow, Snowy, Brown and Brownie. Well, they were high maintenance, hence, we returned to the seller without taking back our money. Besides, the condo is not that big enough for them to flourish as they need a big garden to hop around and move freely instead of being barricaded.

“Why Manis”?

“Manis” in Malay means sweet. It could be in character or flavour. Developed by Ebizu Sdn. Bhd, there is a new Manis App that you can download to snap your receipts and earn points. With sufficient points, you can then redeem for vouchers like Tesco, Giant, MPH, Lazada and much more! Instead of throwing away your shopping receipts, why not keep them to take a photo via the Manis App. There are explanations on the steps to snap, enter shop name and location if not found, enter date, amount spend and SNAP it! With grey circles at corners of the snapped receipt, you can adjust and crop for best view before uploading the photo.

Just make sure that the receipt has a store name, location, date and total amount spent. You can even fold the receipts if they are too long and just show one or two of the items bought so that the photos fits into the smartphone for clarity.

Hence, now it pays to keep your shopping or dining receipts and remember that you have to snap it within 24 hours, otherwise it will become invalid and will be rejected. So, don’t throw them away and keep snapping until you hit your targetted points to redeem for vouchers. I have already gotten my RM 10 MPH voucher since I love to buy books and read them in my free time. In Penang, I patronise Gurney Plaza once in a while and will visit MPH for the latest books on finances and self help material. The RM 10 MPH voucher that I got for hitting 3250 points was redeemed earlier and there is an online help chat to query them on any issues or problems. They will reply within 3 days or earlier.

Above is the list of vouchers that you can redeem including McDonalds that I did not mention earlier. Yes, there are many vouchers to suit your taste and likes. Since I love reading, I chose MPH voucher instead to get a discount of RM 10 should I buy a new book to upgrade myself.

After accumulating up to 6000+ points in 2 months, I redeemed my MPH voucher for slightly over 3000 points and the total points are now halfed and deducted. Each RM 1 = 1 point. Normally I myself don’t spend so much, which is RM 6,000+ in 2 months!. These are shared receipts with my partner and note that petrol receipts are also accepted, which helps to increase the points quite a lot. We also buy rather a lot of vitamins and supplements which helps the points to increase a lot whenever they are accepted.

Certain receipts are NOT accepted such as hand written receipts, hotel receipts, travel receipts, just to name a few. Just check their terms and conditions and you will find out more information. If you refer friends, you will get 500 points too.

Above is the Manis app that you can download from the App store on your smartphone.

Eating Less to Lose Weight

I lost 6 kg already from 83kg and will keep eating half or less to lose more weight for a healthier BMI (Body Mass Index). Just Google that up. For dinner, today, I shall have ‘pink jambu’ bought from Tapah Rest and Relax area along North-South Highway as I was coming back to Penang from KL. I gave a packet to my parents and they enjoy it. I have a digital weighing scale that can measure up to 1 decimal point like 76.9kg. At the moment, the car is sent for repair because of too much leaking of the engine oil and it was bought second-hand. And we took a Grab car back for only RM 5 per short trip. I gave the driver a maximum 5 star review so that he can continue to pick up passengers.

The Mercedes Benz centre is located along Weld Quay and the boss specialises in repairing old and new Mercedes. Just directly opposite is CF cafe where most of the hawker stalls are and it also belongs to the same boss, Chin Fook, hence, the initials CF cafe. He has a datukship and drives a brand new Merc. He proposed to sell a white rather new second hand Merc for RM 50k, but my boss is hesitating because he needs the cash to run his business and pay suppliers, although he may have the money to purchase it.

Blessed to Work at Home

Working at Home

I never take my job for granted and am appreciative for the blessings to work in a home office – a dream job for many with average income from a few sources such as my fixed deposits, rental income and commissions from projects secured via my company website OlympicVenture.com. I also write articles now and then for some allowance, sell stamps and used printer ink cartridges. My boss is my spouse at the moment and 19 years my senior. We may be partners in business, but he is still the commander-in-chief.

As long as I complete the company work like preparing invoices, Purchase Receive for GST input tax, etc, he is ok. But if I pay too much attention on my own work, he can go ballistic. This is also probably because he had set up 7 different companies in the past including a hardware shop in Johor which never really took off. As a result, he had to downgrade from a double storey semi-detached house to a small single storey terrace house due to financial difficulties. Now we make enough money to pay back his various debts, including income tax which he was not supposed to pay but due to wrong move, he is now liable for payments every 2 months. It has reduced to about RM 10k now from RM 35k in the past. He is also paying back his second sister. I find it strange that all the while she never asked for her money back for more than 10 years and it appears to have been given to him. But since he is making some cash and more prosperous than before coming to Penang, it is payback time to the debtors.

Through God’s grace, we met online, he became my website customer and now business partner staying together in a condo in Penang Times Square. We get a few enquiries almost every day from our company website that I built and based on search, clients find us through Google. I am thankful for the knowledge and skill to build a fully functional website that pulls in customers and brings in projects for our Bangladeshi workers so that all of us can put food on the table for our respective families. At the moment dad asked for RM 1,050 or 233.33 USD a month as contribution to the household expenses from me, with RM 250 going to the Catholic church construction and the rest for his expenditure.

I am happy to be able to contribute this much and it is pay back time to him who taught us this: Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; Teach a man How to fish and you feed him a lifetime!

Going for SuperStar Libra Cruise

I just came back yesterday after a visit to Nilai via Firefly, boarding at 7:40am and reaching Penang at 11:00pm the same day. Rested for a while at our KL condo and collected the access cards with photo for $10 for 2 cards. Did a delivery order and invoice this morning and played a game using Nestle vending machine which gives out either a can of Nescafe or a packet of 3 sachets of coconut flavoured coffee powder mix. Tomorrow, will head to Penang Port to board a SuperStar Libra cruise ship for Cruise to the High Seas for 1 night while enjoying free dinner, magic shows or just relax at the deck enjoying the sea breeze as it cruises along.

Plane Take Off from Penang International Airport

Above is my video capture using my iPhone 6 of Firefly taking off from Penang International Airport. When the engines started to fire, it zoomed past very fast for some time before lift off. I have more videos to show but apparently the upload to computer from my iPhone is very slow due to limited storage on both my iPhone and the computer. On Friday, I will travel by car to Ipoh to meet up with a potential business client taking 2 hours on the road or less. Just the other day, I received a Singapore cheque for only a mere S$1.54 for royalty on my book and the charge for the transaction for the cheque to clear is RM 30 without including the postage. So, I might as well, don’t bank in and keep it.
